Hard Cheeses – Parmesan, Asiago, Aged Cheddar, Gouda, Colby

Health Benefits

Hard cheeses are good sources of calcium and phosphorus. Calcium and phosphorus are both essential for supporting strong bones and teeth. Hard cheese also contains some protein, which is essential for supporting muscle growth.

Cooking Methods

Melting: Hard cheeses melt very well and are great to use in sauces, mac and cheese, casseroles, and many other recipes.

Grating or Shaving: Grate or shave cheese over pasta, soups, or other dishes.

Seasonings

Hard cheeses pair great with herbs! Try basil, thyme, rosemary, oregano, or Italian seasoning. Hard cheeses also pair great with black pepper, paprika, nutmeg, and chili flakes.

Storage & Preservation

Hard cheeses should be refrigerated. Try to keep the cheese away from the coldest part of the fridge to avoid dryness. This is usually the back of the fridge. Consider wrapping opened blocks of cheese in wax paper or foil. Shredded cheese should be stored in an airtight container. Hard cheeses can also be frozen for 2-6 months. Shred before freezing.
