In 2021, Feeding America found that 5.5 million senior citizens in the United States experienced food insecurity. Recent data from 2023 shows that number has grown to 7.4 million!
As one of the most vulnerable populations, lack of access to nutritious food leads to an increased risk of developing chronic health conditions and disabilities. One of the ways South Michigan Food Bank supports our neighbors is by serving as a proud partner of the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP). CSFP is a federal program that provides support by supplementing diets with monthly food packages filled with nutritious USDA foods.
