At SMFB, we believe that access to healthy, nourishing food should be available to everyone. This belief is the heart behind our Mobile Markets Program—an initiative that brings nutritious food directly into low-resource neighborhoods.
How does it work?
Our Mobile Markets are essentially a “pantry on wheels” that travel to communities across our service area. They’re designed to meet people where they are, primarily in rural areas, senior assisted living facilities, low-income housing communities, and more.
Each Mobile Market offers a wide selection of meal kits, fresh fruits and vegetables, protein, dairy, and shelf-stable items. We also supply easy-to-follow recipes to encourage nutrition education and cooking healthy meals.
The Purpose of Mobile Markets
Our goal is to provide a welcoming and supportive environment that aims to promote health and well-being. For many, Mobile Markets are a reliable source of fresh food, allowing our neighbors to supplement their meals, rather than sacrifice nourishment. In many of the communities we serve, residents face barriers like transportation challenges or financial hardship. Mobile Markets are a powerful way to close that gap.

Powered by Our Community, For Our Community
Our Mobile Markets wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of our program sponsors and our site hosts that graciously allow us to use their parking lots for distributions. We are also grateful for all our dedicated staff members, drivers, and volunteers that work tirelessly at each distribution to ensure our neighbors have the nourishment they need to thrive.
Looking Ahead
As food insecurity continues to affect families across South Michigan, we’re committed to growing our Mobile Markets Program to serve more people in more places. We’re always looking for ways to make the program more accessible and more impactful for everyone.
By sponsoring a Mobile Market, you can help sustain and grow the program for years to come. For more information, please contact info@smfoodbank.org. Together, we can bring nourishment and hope to every corner of our community.
