Mustard greens are a great source of vitamins and minerals that your body needs to stay healthy! Mustard greens are high in vitamin C, which is important for a healthy immune system. They are also high in vitamin A, which is important for heart, lung, and kidney health and other body functions.

Cooking Methods

Before cooking, always wash the mustard greens thoroughly and remove the thick stem. Try one of these cooking methods or just simply add the washed mustard greens straight to soups or casseroles!

Simmering: This is the classic southern style cooking method. Add mustard greens to a pot with broth or water along with seasonings. Simmer for 20-25 minutes.

Saute: Heat oil in a skillet. Add chopped mustard greens and minced garlic or chopped onions. Cook for 3-6 minutes.

Seasonings

Classic seasonings include salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, fresh or powdered garlic, onions, and red pepper flakes.

Storage & Preservation

Try to avoid washing mustard greens ahead of time to keep it fresh for longer. Store mustard greens in the fridge wrapped loosely in a paper towel in a container to keep unwanted moisture out. To freeze, blanch the mustard greens by adding them to boiling water for 2-3 minutes, then transfer to ice water. Allow to dry then freeze for up to 1 year.
