Plum Jam

Ingredients

  • 3.5 lbs very ripe plums
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 ¼ cups sugar
  • ¾ tsp nutmeg (optional)
  • ½ tsp cinnamon

Directions

  1. Cut plums in half, remove pit and chop into eighths, then cut those in half.
  2. Place in a saucepan with water and sugar. Stir and bring to a boil. Lower heat and cook until the fruit is soft, about 20 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  3. Place in a blender and carefully puree. If you don’t have a blender, you can mash with a masher as much as possible.
  4. Clean out the saucepan and add the pureed mixture back into the pan. Add spices and cook over low heat for 2-3 hours, or until it reaches a spreadable consistency. Stir often to prevent burning.
  5. Place in glass jars such as a mason jar and let cool. Place the lid on top and store in the refrigerator. The jam will last about 1 month. If frozen, it will last about 6 months.
