Soft Cheeses – Feta, Mozzarella, Brie, Ricotta, Cream Cheese, Cottage Cheese

Health Benefits

Soft cheeses contain calcium, which is crucial for maintaining strong bones and teeth. Soft cheeses contain protein, important for muscle growth and repair. Some soft cheeses also contain probiotics, which are beneficial bacteria that support the gut.

Cooking Methods

Melting/Softening: Soft cheeses melt easily or soften into a creamy texture when heated.

Baking: Soft cheeses bake well into dishes such as casseroles, dips, or stuffed into dishes.

Seasonings

Soft cheeses have delicate, creamy flavors, so the goal is to enhance the flavor without overwhelming. Try these fresh herbs: basil, thyme, chives, parsley, or rosemary. Try oregano as a dried herb. Black pepper also pairs well.

Storage & Preservation

Store soft cheese in the refrigerator away from the door. Keep the cheese in its original packaging until ready to use. Once opened you can transfer the cheese to an airtight container. Soft cheeses can also be frozen. Do this by wrapping tightly in plastic wrap then place in a freezer bag.
