Fresh Food Distribution

Everyone deserves access to fresh food.

What began as a start-up initiative in 2008 has turned into one of our most impactful programs here at South Michigan Food Bank — our Fresh Food Distributions, or FFDs. We have 100 FFD sites across our eight counties, which give clients 20+ pounds of fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, dairy, and bakery items so they can supplement their meals, not make sacrifices.

In our warehouse, volunteers pack all of the fresh boxes we distribute throughout our eight counties! Sometimes this is up to 1100 boxes in one day!
Each box contains over 20 pounds of fresh food, which varies from day to day — meaning our clients get a wide variety of healthy foods at their distributions.
We’re proud to partner with different types of agencies and love to see the community come together to serve, like this distribution in Kalamazoo County with Catholic Charities Diocese of Kalamazoo and Kalamazoo Parks!
We know the importance of having quality produce to supplement nonperishable options. We are providing over 200% more fresh food to our neighbors than we were pre-pandemic!
